One of the things that I like about working with children is that in addition to teaching them new things, I also learn from them everyday. Sometimes I feel like one more of them. In short, I think it is very gratifying to be able to accompany them in every step they take while in my care.

Lucia Camacho

Busy Bees (ECCE) and AIM Worker

My love of education began long before I started my degree in Childhood Education in 2016. When I was 11 years old, I started teaching karate alongside my teacher and when I was 16 years I ran my own classes. At 20 years old, I finished my degree and all I wanted was to share everything I learned. So I came to live in Ireland where I found a teaching opportunity, which in my country of origin Spain , I did not have. I left everything behind to begin this journey and I do not regret it. Now I work in a creche in a preschool room, including two who has additional needs.

During my education, I felt great admiration towards one of my teachers. She made me to see how beautiful and important it is to make someone feel validated and relevant, and how far you can go when others trust you and teach you to value who you are and what you can become. This became my goal as a teacher. In one of my karate classes I had two children with additional needs. My teacher was the one who made me understand how important it was for these children to feel included and in this case to be evaluated based on their own abilities rather than by comparing them to others. There at just 16 years old and almost imperceptibly I started to set the foundations of my beliefs in an inclusive education. My passion for my profession started with the dedication of my wonderful teachers who are still role models to me. Through them is why I believe that building positive relationship with the children In my care and their families is the basis to create a comfortable environment and promote an inclusive education.
